As a System Engineer at Royal Houdijk, it is important to correctly interpret the customer’s wishes and translate them into a solution that aligns as much as possible with our existing systems. The daily tasks that arise from this can best be divided into three layers.
"As a System Engineer, you are the link between the customer and your own organization."
To begin with, we do a lot of quotation work. The sales colleagues start calculating based on the layout we design according to the customer’s requirements. Once an order is confirmed, we create a ‘project scope,’ and our Lead Engineers then start working on a preliminary design of the system.
Secondly, I focus on testing concepts that we incorporate into our layouts. This takes place as a quotation gradually takes its final form. Testing for a new system is carried out in our own Modelshop.
There is a wide variety of customers. Some clients are very advanced in terms of technology within their production lines, while others often still operate with so-called “manual lines.” This is often where our challenge lies! We advise our customers and explore new possibilities for them. People are flexible; they can more easily handle “faulty” products that don’t fully meet dimensions or patterns. It is up to us to determine whether it is cost-effective to opt for a new system from Royal Houdijk. As a System Engineer, I act as the link between the customer and our own organization, which makes it an exciting challenge.
